Revalving
Revalving changes the internal damping characteristics of a shock absorber so that it better suits the vehicle, its weight, suspension geometry and intended use.
The standard valving supplied in a shock is designed around a particular application, but changes to vehicle weight, spring rate, tyre size, suspension travel or usage can make the original setup less suitable.
We can alter compression and rebound damping to improve:
- Body control
- Traction
- Ride quality
- Stability
- Response over rough terrain
- Resistance to bottoming
- Control during high-speed or competition use
Where appropriate, we use our in-house shock dyno to measure the existing damping characteristics before making changes and to confirm the effect of the revised setup afterwards.
Revalving can be carried out as part of a shock rebuild or as a separate development exercise where the dampers are otherwise in good condition.
For more involved applications, we can also work from vehicle weights, spring rates, suspension geometry and customer feedback to develop a damping specification tailored to the vehicle.
Every application is different, so we will normally ask for as much information as possible about the vehicle, its current suspension and how it is being used before recommending changes.
